Welcome to South East Landcare

Landcare is a national network of thousands of community groups who care for our country. Australia boasts more than 4000 community landcare groups and thousands of landcare volunteers.

South East Landcare (SEL) is a federation of 7 District Landcare Associations, stretching from the Illawarra in the north, through Shoalhaven, Upper Shoalhaven, Eurobodalla, Far South Coast, Upper Snowy and Snowy River Interstate – which reaches across our southern border into Victoria.

Each of these District Landcare Associations (DLAs) has its own volunteer management committee and one or more employed coordinators. Those DLAs which have been successful with particular grants may also have an employed project officer, for the duration of the grant.

Because of the geographical and climate range of SEL, different DLAs have different interests, eg the Upper Snowy is largely a sheep grazing area while the Far South Coast is specialised in dairy farming.

SEL is establishing a partnership with South East Local Land Services, having enjoyed a valued partnership with the Southern Rivers CMA board and staff prior to the transition to Local Land Services. South East LLS is developing its scope to provide continuous support to each of the 7 DLAs;  assisting in the preparation of submissions, the management of projects, and the coordination of field days.

SEL and Southern Rivers CMA often worked together to prepare submissions for the biannual NSW Landcare Awards. In 2009 Southern Rivers received the state’s Landcare Award for Natural Resource Management, while the Strong Family from Jamberoo, in the Illawarra Area, received the national Primary Producer award. In 2011, Megan Rowlatt from Landcare Illawarra, was awarded Young Landcare Leader for the state. In ABC Farmer Awards, Martin Royds from the Upper Shoalhaven has received several prestigious awards and acknowledgements.
